The other Sunday, my pastor touched on blessings a little and some things he said really stuck with me and I feel they go very well with my post about blessings. He came from Mark 4:13-20.
“…but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke the Word, making It unfruitful.” Mark 4:19 NIV
To paraphrase Pastor C. :
- A lot of times it’s not that God doesn’t want to bless us but He can’t bless us. God plants seeds but our soil isn’t good so it chokes out whatever blessing tries to grow and thrive.
- Sometimes we do reap things, but they aren’t blessings. It has nothing to do with God but with us. You reap based on the seeds you plant. If you plant seeds of bitterness and hate, you reap bitterness and hate. You plant seeds of blessings and encouragement, you reap blessings and encouragement.
- Some of us have good soil and blessings can grow but we can’t manage our blessings. God isn’t going to give you something to waste! Your blessing is based on your capability to manage. “You askin’ for a wife but you sleeping and dipping and messing around with every woman you meet.” “You want a man but you can’t even be faithful to your friends.” “You want a salary but can’t even manage an allowance.”
God isn’t going to give you what you can’t manage! He ain’t a fool!
“Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the Word, accept It, and produce a crop – some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown.” Mark 4:20 NIV
