WHO ARE YOU?…WHOSE ARE YOU??

Whose

As we get older, most of us would like to think or expect that we would gain a clear understanding of who we are- which makes it frustrating when we become young adults and don’t fully know how to identify ourselves.

In reality, many of us in this 13-22 year old range (and maybe even older, I feel) don’t really know who we are- and us adults would like to think that we finally have it figured out but most likely, we don’t.

If you think back over the last 10 years, how many groups of friends have you gone through? How many style changes have you had? How many things have you dabbled in and tried? Yes, “it is all a part of growing up”, but now that you’re grown, do you still feel on the inside that there is something missing from the puzzle of “who you are”?

Confused

The core of the problem isn’t what friends you have or what clothes you wear because the core of who you are isn’t your friends or your clothes- they’re just the icing on the cake…so what’s the batter?…

The world is constantly trying to tell us who we are, what we like, who we like and how we should look. The world knows we’re naive and confused and it doesn’t hesitate to take advantage of that.

If you aren’t easily distracted or persuaded, but pay close attention (something which the world fears), you’ll notice that the world draws and preys on us so early.

We have young children struggling with homosexuality, preteens dabbling in alcohol and young adults involved in drugs. Young people are dying left and right, front and back! We’re being led astray and getting lost before we even really get a chance to start on our journey of discovering who God has called us to be!

Which way

IF YOU DON’T KNOW WHO YOU ARE, THE WORLD WILL TRY TO TELL YOU WHO YOU SHOULD BE.

IF YOU DON’T KNOW WHOSE YOU ARE, THE WORLD WILL TRY TO MAKE YOU ITS SLAVE.

WHOSE ARE YOU?

Whose are you

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Psalm 139:13

If you belonged to the world, the world would love you as one of its own. But because you do not belong to the world and I have chosen you out of it, the world hates you. John 15:19

Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, Who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself,  for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

But you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit Who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world. 1 John 4:4

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 tells us that we are not our own, we were bought at a price. Jesus Christ died that we may live an abundant life full of joy and freedom in Him. Now, I noticed that in John 10:10, Christ says that He has come that we may/might have abundant life. The word “may” stood out to me here. Christ wants all of us to have a life of riches and understanding and freedom, and part of that freedom is us having the right to choose to accept and live this abundant life or not. He isn’t going to force us to find who we truly are in Him, He isn’t going to force us to live a fulfilling life in Him, but if we are offered the opportunity to do so, why not? This opportunity has already been purchased for us.

In order to truly live a blessed life and in order to find out who we really are, we MUST learn about our Creator, God, and who He says we are. We must study His Word to discover what He created us for and to learn the life He intends for us to have. As long as we look to the world for answers, all we will dig up are lies and manipulation.  Why go to a liar for truth? Why go to the enemy to acquire knowledge about what the Creator has made?- Just ask the Creator…run to the Truth.
