Searching or Sought After?

We all want to be loved and feel as though we belong. We all want to be accepted. These wants and feelings are a great thing, but what you may do in order to fulfill these feelings may not be so great.

For most, it seems we spend a great portion of our lives searching…searching for people to complete us, and things we can do or partake in to make us feel a part of the crowd and make us feel good, even if just for a moment.

“I know I ain’t happy. Never found joy I could only find distractions.” – KB

We indulge in alcohol, drugs and lustful activities for those temporary “feel good” moments of acceptance and false love.

We spend countless amounts of money on the “turn up” whether it be buying drinks, new shoes to flex in or the perfect dress for the club (not to mention the price to get into the club). We do all of this just to go home in the late hours still missing something…still thirsting for something more. And though we realize that what we are doing isn’t satisfying, we continue doing the same thing weekend after weekend receiving the same results- which is the definition of insanity. We continue to settle for the same temporary highs instead of turning to the Most High.

“We forever drinking but the thirst is never leaving.”- KB

But the thing is, most aren’t even aware that they are thirsting for something greater- they don’t know that their souls are desperate for something the world can’t offer.

Society has taught us that you need the perfect man or woman to complete you. They’ve brainwashed us into believing that we aren’t really loved if we don’t have that special someone. Society has made us feel as though we don’t truly belong if we aren’t part of the “in crowd” and that there must be something wrong with you if you don’t want to do what everyone else is doing. So we search for the perfect mate to love us, we search for things to do to be accepted by those considered to be the ones everyone wants to know. We search for parties and clubs, wherever the turn up is because we want to have a good time.

Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night, on every one of my social media sites, I see people constantly asking “where’s the party?”, “what are the moves tonight?”, “where’s the turn up?” I have even spoken to people who ask me how I could be happy and have a good time without turning up or getting high. Whenever I see or hear these things, it saddens me a little. You don’t have to do these things to have a great time. Women you don’t have to exploit yourselves to get a man to notice you. If you have to be revealing to get a man to notice you, he isn’t really noticing you, he is noticing your sex appeal. Guys, you don’t have to get drunk or high to feel good and be accepted. If you have to search for ways to fit in and be accepted, you’re not really fitting in or being accepted because you’re not being you.

Feeling empty doesn’t necessarily mean there is something wrong, the purpose of that feeling is a great thing, don’t try to mask it.

The world provides us with many false pleasures that leave us vacant by the end of the night/early morning because each and every one of us has a void that the world can’t fill. God placed that void in us which only He can fit so that we would hunger for Him and come to acknowledge His Presence. Every man has this longing for Christ, and only Christ alone can fill it. He is Who completes us.

Christ went to great extent to ensure that we are able to have a personal, intimate relationship with Him and the Father, however, many of us don’t realize that we are literally sought after.

sought af·ter

in demand; desired

Christ desires to have a personal connection with us so much that He gave His Life over for us. He left Heaven, which is perfect, to come down to a fallen world in order to reach us- that’s love. He found us while in the mist of our mess. He noticed us when others passed us by. He died that all of our sins may be forgiven and that we may spend eternity with Him- that’s acceptance.

Once we really listen to what our empty place is longing for and acknowledge Christ and allow Him to complete us, the whole make-up of our lives will change from the inside out. We will find ourselves happy during times that we would normally find ourselves torn up inside. We won’t feel such a great need for others to accept and validate us because we know that we are sought after and that Christ placed value in us that no man can take away. We won’t be so hungry for a relationship to make us feel loved. God will send others our way who accept and love us for who we are and who we’re called to be. We won’t feel the need to disrespect or exploit ourselves for attention. We won’t have to give our bodies for false love. We won’t have to partake in habits in order to feel a part. We’ll feel joy and peace and be complete. We won’t have those late night empty moments where we’re left low after getting high.

When we realize how deeply we are loved and how hard we are sought after, no one will be able to take advantage of us or pursued us to do things that are below our standards or lower than who God has created us to be.

Ecclesiastes 7:29

This only have I found: God created mankind upright, but they have gone in search of many schemes.

1 Corinthians 6:20

…you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

Romans 5:8

But God demonstrates His own Love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

“Hollerin’ YOLO!
If tomorrow we may die, sure (tomorrow we may die, sure)
Then the kid ’bout to play
We need to play in house parts
I know how it feels, at 15 I ain’t wanna live
I was at the bus stop, ducked down, sparkin’ up the spliffs
Thinkin’ if I die tomorrow no one care
Followin’ these raps
Brag about my status
Am I makin’ people jealous?
I know I ain’t happy (I know)
Never found joy, I could only find distractions

Tell me, can you catch me, I’m fallin’
Tryna make my way to the shore, but I’m callin’ out
I’mma be gone by the mornin’
I can feel the end comin’ now
Don’t let me drown, throw the raft
Before I drown pull me up now
Before I drown, hurry up
Before I drown
(Can You save me now?)
‘Fore I drown
Save me from me, save me from me
Save me from me, save me from me ‘fore I drown
Save me from me, save me from me
Save me from me, save me from me

Oh, He saves (water all around my head)
Let Him become your life
Feelin’ like you gone too far or are you too far gone
Oh, my Lord loves your type
Feelin’ like you runnin’ out of air
He wants you right there (water all around my head)
God only helps stop, but can’t help themselves
We hold the beauty of the King on the pledge of unseen
From the desert of me to the meadows upstream, drink
There is no feelin’ better, never
Won’t be satisfied so
Everyday no fling, I’m safe”
