Before passing the blame, let us look and see if we ourselves have any fault in the matter.

Often times we blame satan – or even GOD – for things that we actually bring upon ourselves.

Not every bad thing that occurs in our life is an act of satan or a curse from God. A lot of times, through our own lack of obedience, we cause strife in our lives that God never intended for us to go through. We connect to people who God never wanted us to connect to, we go places where God warned us not to go and then we wonder why the outcome doesn’t work out in our favor. We blame the negative outcome as an “attack of the enemy” or as a “test from God”, and some of us even go as far as to say it’s “a curse or punishment from God”. No. It’s the consequence of our disobedience. Gratefully, the Grace of God allows us to go THROUGH it and doesn’t allow our disobedience to be the death of us. We could bypass a lot of heartache and turmoil if we would just follow Christ and allow Him to guide our decisions. WE MUST BE OBEDIENT.
When we get saved, we accept Jesus as our LORD and SAVIOR-  but I feel many of us just focus on the Savior part. We want Jesus to save our souls from Hell and deliver us out of the struggles of life on Earth but we don’t give much thought to the fact that He is the Lord over (or “has influence” over) our lives.

  1. 1.

someone or something having power, authority, or influence; a master or ruler.

If we would really allow Jesus to Lord over… have power and authority… to have influence over… to master and rule our lives, we could avoid much of the struggle that we want Him to deliver us from.

Don’t go through things that God never intended for you to go through because you can’t be obedient.

When we accept Jesus as our LORD and SAVIOR and He sanctifies us, we are NO LONGER OF THIS WORLD. We don’t have to follow the crowd and do what everyone else does because we are following Christ and trying to live a life that is pleasing to Him.

Don’t ask God to lead you if you aren’t willing to follow.

You can’t follow God if:

  • you’re following what everyone else is doing
  • You can’t follow two masters, especially if they are going in two totally different directions.
  • you’re focused on what you used to do
  • “This is just how I am, it’s how I’ve always been.” You can NEVER move forward or become the new you if you remain focused on who you used to be and continue to make excuses for why you still do what you’ve always done.
  • you fall in love with the lifestyle you’ve been living
  • You’ve got to break up with the lifestyle you’ve been living. Fully break up with it, no flirting or one-night-stands.

While you were doing these wicked things, says the LORD, I spoke to you about it repeatedly, but you would not listen. I called out to you, but you refused to answer. “But my people would not listen to me. They kept doing whatever they wanted, following the stubborn desires of their evil hearts. They went backward instead of forward. But my people have not listened to me or even tried to hear. They have been stubborn and sinful–even worse than their ancestors. Jeremiah 7:13, 24, 26

“I believe holiness & worship work together, according to Romans 12:1 “… present your body a living sacrifice; holy & acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable act of worship.” Worship isn’t a song, it’s a lifestyle. Back in the Old Testament they worshipped by sacrificing animals to God. Since we’re under a new covenant, we don’t worship by sacrificing tangible things, we worship by sacrificing our life … Just like Jesus did. So according to Romans 12:1 when we worship today, we sacrifice by not doing the things we used to do for the sake of Christ & by doing that we set our selves apart from our old selves – which is holiness.”      John Lewis IV

We try so hard seeking the approval of friends and people who don’t even like us and all the while are losing the approval of God Who loves us.

We often get so caught up in being like the world and fitting in (though we have been called and set apart) that we do things and pick up behaviors that don’t reflect the God we claim we serve.

“Anything you’re not willing to give up or sacrifice for God has become your god.” –Pastor C.

I just want to be where God wants me and accomplish all that He’s called me to do.

“Can they tell you about your Jesus by the way you rep His Name?” -Lecrae

As a Christian we carry the Name of Christ – meaning that what we do once we profess His Name, affects His reputation. Are you tainting the reputation of Christ?

Being a Christian is so much more than a “Phil. 4:13” in a social media bio. It requires a transformation in our lifestyle, it requires obedience, and it definitely requires sacrifice.

“Just because you’ve been transitioned doesn’t mean you’ve been transformed.” – Pastor C.

Many are content with just accepting Jesus as Savior, and only having a transition. Many are okay with just being rescued from an eternity in Hell…But me, personally, I want more than that. I want Jesus to be Lord over my life, as well. I want Him to guide my every decision because I know He will always guide me to the best decision. I want to be transformed from the inside out, I don’t want to be the same on any “today” as I was the day before. I want abundant life while here on earth as well. I know that because He is my Savior and died for me, I am in debt to Him, and though I could never pay Him back for what He did, I want to dedicate my life to pleasing Him and being a testimony for His glory.

So I want to encourage all of you reading to think about what you would like out of your relationship with God, because each of our relationships are different than our fellow believers. Some are content with the way things are, some want more and each of us must decide what it is we want and what we are willing to sacrifice for our Lord and Savior. He leaves the choice up to you- He’s a gentleman, He doesn’t impose Himself on anyone.

Where You lead me – I’ll follow

Where You send me – I’ll go

What You give me- I’ll do

What You tell me- I’ll say

What You show me- I’ll share

What You detest- I’ll stop

Who You love- I’ll love

…‘Obey Me, and I will be your God, and you will be My people. Do everything as I say, and all will be well!’ Jeremiah 7:23

Obedience is our gift to God.
