SPRING BREAK

This spring break I did something different than I normally do. I usually make plans to go somewhere and then end up going nowhere- staying home and catching up on rest. This year things were different. This year I was able to spend my spring break doing something I love, ministry. Within the last year God has really been preparing me to step into my calling and since 2016, He has definitely held true to His promise of propelling me into my purpose.

The Bridge

I was humbled to be invited by The Bridge Student Ministries to come speak with their youth about restoration. It’s great to see young people being drawn to God and having a hunger for His Word! Monday night, I spoke with them about being restored to God after going astray. We did ice breakers, played games, had nachos and pinned our struggles to the Cross as we circled around it and prayed to God for deliverance and complete restoration.

RESTORATION:

Restoration – the action of returning something to a former owner, place, or condition

“When Jesus heard this, He told them, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.””

Mark 2:17 NLT

If you have 10 twenty dollar bills and lose one, don’t you start searching earnestly for that one lost twenty even though you have nine others? Why is that? Because even though you have 9 twenties left, that one lost twenty still has value and it adds to the value of the whole.

The same way goes with God. In Luke 15 Jesus is hanging with sinners and the Pharisees hate it because they feel that He should focus on those who “live righteously”. Jesus shares a parable with them about a shepherd who has 100 sheep but loses one. Though he has 99 he still goes out searching for the one who is lost. When he find him, he is full of joy. The Kingdom of God works in this same way. The Word tells us that God and all of Heaven rejoices more over a lost soul returning home than one that has never gone astray.

When I think of God restoring His children, I don’t just think of Him giving us back double for our trouble, restoring our health or mending broken relationships, I think of Him reconciling us back to Him, our Creator, the One Who formed us in our mothers’ wombs, gave us a purpose and bought us at a price. Christ didn’t just die for one man, or one nation, or one generation, He died for ALL that ALL may be with Him. He doesn’t want one soul lost. He desires to have all of His children return home just like the prodigal son. And He doesn’t greet us with hate, anger and condemnation but with open arms of love, grace and mercy.

As youth, it’s sometimes easy to follow the crowd and get caught up in things that we know we shouldn’t be involved in and satan would like to have us think that we can’t go back to God because we’ve gone too far or God is mad at us and would never take us back. But that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Though we may have strayed away, we must always remember the words of Jesus in Mark 2:17, “I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.” He’s calling you. Time to come home and be restored…we must be like the prodigal son and acknowledge that we are sinners and need the Savior. Christ already did the hard part at the Cross, all He asks is that we confess our sins to Him, proclaim that He is Lord and accept Him as Lord and Savior of our lives…and actually allow Him to be both, not just Savior but Lord as well, as we follow His guidance and obey His commandments.

Just like the father of the prodigal son, Christ is waiting for your return.

D. I. V. A. S.

I also had the privilege to be asked to come speak with the D. I. V. A. S. at a local middle school about God having plans for our lives. I talked to them about setting goals in life and how we should embrace failure because it’s a part of success. We wrote down and discussed fears that hold us back from attempting to obtain our dreams and then we ripped my up those fears and threw them in the trash! We choose faith over fear!

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

Jeremiah 29:11 NLT

When you have set dreams and goals, you can’t just hang with any and everybody, and when God has called you and has plans for your life, you can’t just do what any and everybody does. You have to hang with those who are going where you’re going or else you’ll remain where you’ve always been.

“Plans go wrong for lack of advice; many advisers bring success.”

Proverbs 15:22 NLT

Align yourself with people who fit your destiny NOT your past.

Check you circle- your friends are a reflection of your future, so if you’ve been stagnant or going in circles, you may need to check your circle.

Billionaires hang with billionaires, movie stars hang with movie stars, athletes hang with athletes and dancers hang with other dancers.

Failure and rejection are a part of success, they precede it. A lot of people don’t become successful or reach their dreams because they are scared of failure, or they fail one time and give it on they don’t realize that failure is a step in the ladder of success. The more failure you experience, the more steps you’re taking and the higher up you’re going. We embrace failure as constructive criticism and redirection because it is leading us closer to where we are trying to go.

Had Walt Disney never been fired, he may have been stuck as an editor for years and never created Disney world. My generation wouldn’t have had lion king and high school musical and you ladies wouldn’t have the movies you love. We wouldn’t have Disney theme parks to go to on vacations or cute merchandise to buy.

The same goes for us. Sometimes the things that we think we want aren’t the best that God has for us. They are good things but they aren’t the best so God has to remove the good that is blocking the better that He has for us. I can look back in my life and see times when God has removed something good from my life and I really hurt but I’ve learned that those good things were preventing better things from happening.

Over the break I also decided to spend my free time reading a book that a good friend of mine suggested. Radical by David Platt has really changed how I view Christianity and how I live my life. In January I read Platt’s Follow Me which really got me thinking about what it means to be a follower of Christ. Those who know me definitely wouldn’t call me a book worm. I’m not even one who enjoys reading so if I suggest a book it must really be good. I suggest that all of you read Follow Me and Radical by David Platt whether you’re a believer or not!

Lastly, I finished off my spring break taking my mom to see Lion King Live Broadway Tour! She loves Lion King and after seeing the Lion King performance at Disney World last summer she has been wanting to see the musical! Before heading to the show we stopped at Dame’s Chicken and Waffles. We have hear many people talking about how great they were so we decided to try them out!

I got gingerbread waffles with the chocolate hazelnut smear, two chicken legs and macaroni and cheese. My mom got classic waffles with vanilla walnut smear, two wings and thigh and macaroni and cheese. The portions were a great size- we definitely had to get to go trays. Lol.

Lion King Live was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!! From the singing to the dancing to the acting to the costumes to the transitions on stage, I would give it 10’s across the board. I can hardly even put it into words! All I can say is that it is a must see for all of you Lion King Fans and even those of you who may not necessarily be fans.LionKinglionking2lionking3lionking8
