As a maturing Christian, I’ve found myself trying to rid my life of sin and live a blameless life holy and acceptable to Christ…without the help of Christ. I can be kind of controlling. Not controlling in the sense of “do whatever I say or else” but in the sense that I try to plan everything and I’m a perfectionist to an extent. I try to do right because I know right from wrong and I try to micromanage myself so to speak. But that’s the problem right there…I’m not supposed to be micromanaging myself, I’m supposed to hand my sins, struggles, evil desires, attitudes, pettiness over to God and He does the managing. As long as I try to live righteously on my own I will fail. It’s not until we fully relinquish what we’ve been struggling with over to God that He can really begin to work on us.
I imagine that for most of us who come to Christ, we ask for forgiveness and we lay our problems at His feet and then by the end of service or by the time we finish praying we go back to His feet and grab our issues before going on about our day. Christ is standing there waiting for us to take our hands off of our struggles because He is a gentleman, He isn’t going to rip them from our grip. Whatever it is you’ve been struggling to rid your life of whether it be cursing, drinking, smoking, fornicating, partying, idolatry, anger, the love of money…the list could go on…but whatever it is, don’t be ashamed, be honest with God and lay it all at His feet so that He can help you. Christ has been interceding for you and longs to help you through this life in the flesh. He knows the struggle is real…
“This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for He faced all of the same testings we do, yet He did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.”
Hebrews 4:15-16 NLT
When we get on our knees and get honest with God about what has been holding us back from being able to be fully used by Him…when we are honest and confess our lustful desires for pride, sex, money whatever it may be, THEN He is able to cleanse us and fully use us. He already knows what we struggle with, He is just waiting for us to stop stumbling over it trying to overcome it in our strength and finally hand it over to Him. Will you relinquish it today???
“Then Jesus said, “Come to Me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you. Let Me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.””
Matthew 11:28-30 NLT
“Where is another God like You, who pardons the guilt of the remnant, overlooking the sins of his special people? You will not stay angry with Your people forever, because You delight in showing unfailing love. Once again You will have compassion on us. You will trample our sins under Your feet and throw them into the depths of the ocean!”
Micah 7:18-19 NLT
