“Now if you call yourself a Jew, and rest in the law, boast in God, know His will, and approve the things that are superior, being instructed from the law, and if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind, a light to those in darkness, an instructor of the ignorant, a teacher of the immature, having the full expression of knowledge and truth in the law — you then, who teach another, don’t you teach yourself? You who preach, “You must not steal” — do you steal? You who say, “You must not commit adultery” — do you commit adultery? You who detest idols, do you rob their temples? You who boast in the law, do you dishonor God by breaking the law? For, as it is written: The Name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you.”
Romans 2:17-24 HCSB
Whatchu Doin Fam?
What are we doing? Are we exalting God’s Name and bringing Him glory or are we the reasoning behind His Name being blasphemed? In this 21st century it appears as though mankind takes God for a joke and I believe that that’s partially due to them not taking us seriously. They take us- the Church, the Body of Christ, God’s mouthpiece- for a joke. Not all Christians are hypocrites but if we take an honest look at all those proclaiming to walk this walk, a majority are really just talk.
If John the Baptist baptized by day but was at the bar by night, would you expect people in his day take his message of the coming of the Messiah seriously?
If Peter preached and fought for the Gospel by day but indulge in porn and fornication by night, do you think people would’ve converted by the thousands to the Faith of Christ?
If Paul taught all day but then turnt up all night, do you think people would’ve turned from their wicked ways and false religions to come to Christ?
If you answered no to any of these questions, I have another question for you? Why do we- modern day disciples of Jesus Christ- indulge in these same activities???
Notice that I said INDULGE not FALL INTO or WRESTLE WITH.
If we want people to take us seriously and therefore the Message of Christ, that we preach seriously we need to also take God and His Word seriously.
If you aren’t applying the Word to your life, how are you effectively supplying It to others?
Practice what you preach.
Live a life that doesn’t testify against you but rather speaks for you.
It’s time to learn how to be a disciple.
This month on Sowfull, we’re going to learn what it means to truly be a disciple of Christ.
