Mask Off

Updated: Mar 27, 2020

Some of us have been so focused on our concerns that we’ve made them bigger than God in our lives. We’ve been feeding anxiety and fear instead of trust and faith in God.

I know it’s true. Don’t be ashamed. I’ll be the first to admit that I too have been doing this. Scrolling on social media and checking the news for the latest updates on COVID-19...reading articles on the pandemic. It starts out just retweeting funny memes and learning the best ways to prevent contracting the virus or spreading it. However, it seems that the more you research, the more you’re concerned about the virus. You begin to move from being curious and caution to being overly concerned. Any little cough or twinge in the throat and you hear Cardi B screaming “CORONAVIRUS!!!!”

I was already a germphobe before this pandemic - you can only imagine how extreme I’ve gotten. Lol And my concern wasn’t even for myself. I didn’t want to somehow have the virus and infect someone else unknowingly. But at some point, I had to stop myself and say, “either I’m going to trust that God is gonna God or I’m not. Either He’s going to do what He does and protect me as He promised or He’s not.” (Spoiler alert: He’s always going to do what He promises. We just have to trust Him to do just that. Check out Numbers 23:19.)

I know you and I aren’t alone in this either. But then we wonder why we are overwhelmed with worry and can’t seem to pray or get into the Word. Our job as God’s children is to bring our petitions to Christ. Don’t feel condemned about the emotions you’re experiencing. Don’t think that you have to hide how you feel from God or mask your emotions for fear of condemnation from others. Take the mask off! God calls us to come to Him honestly with our fears, our worries and our burdens...and then leave them at His feet. As my Pastor says, “it’s our job to pray, it’s God’s job to protect.” And just that He will!! But we must trust Him.

I know that this pandemic is scary but we don’t have to be scared. I know that not being able to work is stressful, but we don’t have to be stressed. I know that not having a graduation ceremony, wedding ceremony or baby shower is disappointing and heartbreaking but we don’t have to be downcast or heartbroken. If we carry these natural feelings to Christ, He can exchange them for supernatural peace. Be still, let go of your concerns and know that HE IS GOD. He protects His people. He works all things together for the good. Trust Him. Feed your faith not your fear.

*Remember, it’s wise to follow precautions but there is no need for panic.♥️

“Why are you discouraged, my soul? Why are you so restless? Put your hope in God, because I will still praise Him. He is my savior and my God.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭42:5‬ ‭GW‬‬

“Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him For the help of His countenance.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭42:5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice!

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭4:4, 6-8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:28‬ ‭NLT‬‬
