“This is My Year!”

"This year is my year!"

Every January this is our favorite line to say. That's great, but many of us don't do our part in making sure that this rings true. Then once the year comes to an end, we are ready to blame others (the Pastor, First Lady, the prophet on social media, etc.) for it not turning out how we anticipated.

It is a new year! 2018 is upon us and for many, it was accompanied by prophecies that got us shouting and taking laps around the church. But let’s be clear...

Prophecies come but a process follows as well. THEN once we have been obedient in the process, we take hold of the promise.

In the excitement of the new year, our resolutions, goals and prophecies let’s not forget to keep God first in our hearts, decision making and actions, NOT just our bios and Facebook posts.

To begin the year, I am studying some of the promises of God. As I was putting the study plan together, I couldn’t help but notice that before the promises, God sends instructions. “IF My people would humble themselves”, “IF My people pray”, “IF My people obey Me”, “IF My people repent”, ”IF you keep My commands”...

That “IF” is our part of the promise. It is the prerequisite to all that God has for us. The obedience is our responsibility and the outcome is the Lord’s.

We cannot enter this new year expectant and disobedient at the same time. Let’s make a conscious decision and effort to follow God in EVERY AREA of our lives. Let’s actually deny the flesh this year. Let’s use our free will to give up or free will, to fulfill the will of the Father. As we seek God first, obey His commands and follow Him, His blessings will follow us.

Don’t let 2018 be another year where we post, “pastor has x amount of time to tell me why he said this would be my year”.

We can’t call the prophet fake when we didn’t follow the instructions that accompanied the prophecy and promises of God.

“Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to His cross and crucified them there. Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.” Galatians 5:24-25 NLT
“But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.” Matthew 6:33 HCSB
